Strengthening Columbia's campus community and deepening ties with Israeli researchers.

Mission Statement

Kalaniyot at Columbia is a nonsectarian, nonpartisan effort to bring a diverse population of postdoctoral research fellows and visiting faculty from Israeli academic institutions to Columbia University to engage in scholarly inquiry and civil dialogue on a wide variety of topics in STEM, medicine, law, and business.

Thanks to externally funded fellowships from the program's sponsors, our objective is to build a community of global scholars with advanced domain expertise at Columbia. These scholars will include alums of Israeli universities of various religions and nationalities.

Program Objectives

Support Researchers

Our Postdoctoral Fellows and Sabbatical Scholars programs will deepen Columbia's ties with Israeli researchers and work with university administration and existing Columbia programs to ensure an inclusive campus:

  • Columbia-Kalaniyot Postdoctoral Fellows: The Columbia-Kalaniyot Postdoctoral Fellows Program will support recent Israeli PhD graduates to conduct their postdoctoral training at Columbia. The objective is for Israeli researchers to conduct cutting-edge research, build strong research ties to Columbia and maintain connections with their Columbia colleagues after they return to Israel.
  • Columbia-Kalaniyot Sabbatical Scholars: The Columbia-Kalaniyot Sabbatical Scholars Program will bring established Israeli researchers to Columbia for their sabbatical year. The objective is for Israeli researchers to build strong personal ties during the program, enlarging the circle of Columbia faculty who collaborate with Israelis across all areas of study at Columbia. Sabbatical scholars will be selected competitively and will be provided with financial support to reduce the financial burden of living near campus, so they can fully participate in campus life and research.

Build Community

We foster a welcoming and inclusive campus environment by engaging Kalaniyot Fellows as both academic contributors and community builders—creating an inviting atmosphere for current Jewish and Israeli students and those considering attending Columbia, while also promoting understanding of the inclusivity and diversity of the Israeli academic community.
